The 3 Style Words Method
A Modern, Emotion-Driven Way to Define Your Personal Style
Most women don’t struggle with style because they lack taste.
They struggle because they lack clarity.
They know when an outfit feels off, but can’t articulate why.
They admire beautiful looks on others, yet feel disconnected when trying to recreate them.
Their closet is full — but emotionally uninspiring.
At Transformed Style, I believe personal style isn’t about following trends or owning more clothing.
It’s about understanding how you want to feel, what you’re visually drawn to, and how you want to show up in the world.
That’s where the 3 Style Words Method comes in (thanks to Allison Bornstein) — supported by two personality- and emotion-driven modifier words which I have added for my clients.
This framework turns style into intention and getting dressed into a grounded, creative, confidence-building ritual.
The 3 Core Style Words
Your three core style words define the visual foundation of your style.
They should feel timeless, visually clear, and emotionally true.
Examples:
Modern · Sculptural · Refined
Soft · Feminine · Polished
Relaxed · Elevated · Effortless
Creative · Expressive · Bold
Classic · Tailored · Understated
The 2 Modifier Words
Your two modifier words are emotion and personality driven.
They describe how you want your clothing to make you feel and what you find aesthetically pleasing.
Emotion & Personality:
Inspired, Confident, Calm, Grounded, Creative, Expressive, Powerful, Sensual, Playful, Intentional
Aesthetic & Visual:
Sculptural, Vibrant, Soft, Sharp, Fluid, Imaginative, Textured, Luminous, Graphic, Organic
How to Identify the Third Style Word
The third style word is often the missing dimension.
It balances the other two and explains why certain pieces almost work but don’t feel complete.
Ask yourself:
• What outfits do I admire but hesitate to wear?
• Where does my style feel too safe or too sharp?
• What quality makes my favorite outfit feel complete?
That answer is often your third word.
You are not stuck with this style definition forever. Your personal style will evolve with you and you can change your words as you discover different aspects of your style. Just get a clear vision for who you are right now, who you are becoming, and how you want to be seen.
Final Thought
Personal style is an emotional, evolving experience.
When your wardrobe aligns with how you want to feel, what you find beautiful, and who you are becoming,
getting dressed becomes an act of confidence and self-expression. Enjoy the process!
